2-Day Alpine Skills Course
April 21 - April 22| $300
This course will cover a variety of alpine techniques and skill building over two days on the slopes of Mt. Hood. This fun weekend of training will prepare you for basic snow/glacier climbs or snow covered alpine hiking trails. We will cover choosing optimum routes on a glacier climb, how avoid crevasses, and crevasse rescue. We will also cover how to rig a sled and rope-up for expedition style travel on glaciers.

• Snow travel techniques
• Snow anchors and belaying
• Roped travel
• Knots for snow climbing
• Clothing and equipment for snow climbing
• Glaciers and how to read them
• Rigging sleds
• Crevasse rescue techniques
• Pulley Systems
Price includes transportation to the mountains and the following gear: snowshoes, ice axes, trekking poles, ropes, sleds, harnesses, helmets and crampons.
Students are expected to be in reasonable physical condition and prepared for 2 full days of working in cold weather on the snow. We will depart from the office each morning and return there each evening. Students also have the option of meeting at the mountain.
All participants must have waterproof boots and suitable clothing for climbing and camping in the snow.
