Have you ever wanted to backpack and cover a some serious distance? Why didn’t you? Was it inexperience? Was it your confidence? Did you get lost in the planning? If so, than this trip is perfect for you!
This trip is designed to give you the skills and confidence to plan and execute long or short backpacking trips. Our goal is to cover 32 miles of the PCT in 4 days and 3 nights. We’ll start near Mt. Hood and head south into the mountains. On the first day we’ll meet at our office in Troutdale, OR and cover what and how to pack, as well as prep some homemade backpacking meals. Afterwards, we will travel to the trailhead to begin our hike. We’ll cover between 8-12 miles each day which will be decided through group consensus and pace. Our final day will end near Breitenbush Lake, with an optional trip to the hot springs to soak and celebrate our accomplishment!
We will cover:
Using a map and guidebook to plan logistics, daily distance, etc.
Finding and setting up camp
Acquiring and purifying water
Cooking meals and the use of different types of stoves
Basic trail first aid
Using a compass
Trip includes: transportation to and from the trail, permits, all meals, tents, group gear (stoves, fuel, water purification methods, etc).
Clients will provide: Sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and backpack. REA has a limited supply available for loan.
