In 2006, Rare Earth Adventures (REA) affiliated with the Wilderness Education Association (WEA) with many goals in mind. Our goal was to become involved with an association that promoted environmental integration and envisioned national recognition of our profession.

In 2009, REA was one of the first affiliates to obtain an accredited-provisional status with the WEA.  Our accredited status continues to add more credibility to our outdoor education models used to train individuals at all levels.

Maintaining our affiliation requires our staff to be heavily involved with the WEA at all levels.  Some of our staff are current and former board members and all of our staff participate in one or multiple working committee’s for the WEA.  Since 2006, our involvement with the WEA has helped shaped the curriculum requirements for the WEA.

Rare Earth Adventures is offering a 6 day backpacking trip with the purpose of helping future Outdoor Educators to gain their Outdoor Living Certificate. This level of education involves exposure to the Wilderness Education Association (WEA) six educational components. This curriculum is intended for the outdoor paraprofessional that leads outdoor experiences 3 nights in length or less. The Outdoor Leader curriculum results in a Certificate of Completion as well as the ability to teach the WEA’s Outdoor Enthusiast curriculum.

Outdoor Leaders are often presented with decision-making challenges in an uncertain environment with limited information. Outdoor leaders must demonstrate judgment by effectively integrating educational components and situational variables to make and implement quality decisions. Accurate assessment and application of skills using judgment is the central quality of an effective outdoor leader. Our six day course will provide the skills that you need to help get you started as an outdoor professional.
