Our goal is to get you to the summit of Mt. Adams, the second largest peak in Washington and the third largest in the cascades at 12,276' (feet). Our carefully designed itinerary allows for a more relaxed pace and plenty of time to attempt the summit. Although REA follows a general itinerary, we work closely with you to ensure that your group's needs are met.
Day 1: Meet at our office in Troutdale, Oregon and organize gear; travel to the trailhead; and begin hiking to our camp at around 9,000'. On this day, we will cover approximately 3 miles and gain 4,000' of elevation. After setting up camp, we will conduct "snow school" to be sure everyone is comfortable with their mountain axe and crampons.
Day 2: After an early morning breakfast, we'll head for the summit. We first arrive at the false summit (Piker's Peak), then push on the last 600' to the true summit. This is a steep and challenging ascent, but a clear day will reward climbers with views of Mt. Rainier, Mt Hood, and Mount Saint Helens. After climbing back down to the false summit, the remaining descent to camp is accomplished by a quick, knee-saving glissade. Most of our clients think the glissade is the best part of this trip!
Day 3: After a restful night and breakfast, we'll pack up camp and hike back to the trailhead and travel back to our office in Troutdale, Oregon.

I booked a Mt. Adams climbing trip with REA. They are a cut above the rest, putting each client's experience above maximizing profit. From proving better gear without hidden rental fees, to offering hearty backcountry-friendly meals. Our guide Brandon was professional, friendly, and an encyclopedia of knowledge. Our party had varied levels of outdoor experience, and he was able to fluidly communicate with each. His approach was to educate instead of "hand holding," allowing us to gain confidence. He went above and beyond our expectations of a guide. Will definitely use REA for future trips.
This trip includes: Permits, transport to and from the REA office, group gear (tents, stoves, etc), technical gear (mountain axe, crampons, helmet), and meals.
